A fun, friendly, family country cricket club with wonderful people and spectacular views...
Jindivick Cricket Club, like many country cricket clubs, has a colourful history of characters and events stretching back to beyond the 1930's. The exact establishment date is still something to be uncovered with some research, but we do have at least one premiership photo from 1932/33. The club moved around a lot over the decades, even playing in a front paddock at the Parke family's property for a number of years. The permanent home for the Jindivick Cricket Club, on Jacksons Track, was decided upon in the mid 1970's and the first matches were played at the venue in 1980. The site was used by club members prior to this to grow potatoes, a lucrative endeavour in those days, that went a long way to paying for the excavation work. Historical photos from Ash Wednesday show club members harvesting the spuds in the heat and haze.
The club 'made do' with a small shed for the clubrooms until 2005, when the current club rooms were built with a combination of volunteer work and recognised builders. Since the completion of the rooms, which overlook the glorious vista of the ground and the valley beyond, the club has grown a lot. Cooperation with local council and community has been fruitful for the cricket club, as this has brought considerable support in the form of additional toilets, a bbq shelter, outdoor exercise equipment and a quality cricket net facility.
Most years the club is now fielding 4 or 5 senior teams and 3 junior teams and running programs for the younger ones. The club has always aimed to give local people an opportunity to access a standard of cricket that suits different ability levels, and the club encourages young players to represent the local Cricket Association or to challenge themselves at sub District or District level. This year the club looks to have recruited strongly and is fielding teams in divisions 2,3,4, and 6, under 16, 14 and Milo 2-9 y.o.
